Purim is here, and we’re thinking it’d be a great time to take care of today’s Haman et. al. — if only our leaders were on board with that!

Anyway, we were busy all week with our tasks. I spent most of the week (and last week) working on a very major upgrade to 8th. Now I’m in the “bug fixing” portion and hopefully can make a release next week.

I also lucked-out, in that I’ve been trying to come up with a way to make a “chimney” for our BBQ ever since I built it. This week, one of our neighbors threw out an A/C ducting fixture which looks about right, and I snagged it. Now I need a sabre saw so I can slice and dice it to fit.

Various and sundry:

The kerfuffle in the US over the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil highlights an interesting phenomenon: to wit, that people who only yesterday were calling for the restriction of “hate speech”, are today crying bitterly over poor Mahmoud’s “free speech rights”. As someone who is a free-speech absolutist on the personal level, may I raise a point? There is not, nor has there ever been, any country where “absolute free speech” is a thing. You cannot, for instance, slander someone and not face legal consequences. You cannot threaten violence without legal consequences. True, the USA is far more liberal than most other places when it comes to the right to express oneself, but there are and always have been limits.

All that aside, poor Mahmoud is a “green card holder”, which means he’s a “legal resident” — but that status is subject to far more restrictions than the jabbering herd seems to be aware of. It can be revoked at any time; and, hopefully, many more Hamas-supporting ghouls will be thus ejected from the USA. One can hope, anyway.

The temperature’s been climbing since last shabbat, and we’re now in a heat-wave that will run through next Wednesday, apparently. Highs of 27C in Jerusalem this shabbat, so probably around 30C here. Ugh!

This shabbat we and our guests will have:
homemade ḥallah, brisket, salmon, cauliflower couscous, various salatim, and chocolate chip cookies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom and purim sameaḥ!
