Congrats to the Grands on receiving their first siddurim! And kudos to their school for making the effort to live-stream the events.
Our efforts to always have something exciting to say paid off again! This week as I was doing the laundry, I discovered the washing machine had decided it was no longer going to do the wash. It was spun-out, dried-up, never to wheeze again. True, it was 18 years old, but that’s a mere pittance!
Anyway, we had to get a new washing machine, which was an unexpected and unwelcome expense; but, as the gentleman at the appliance store said, “that should be your worst problem”. Amen to that, brother!
As I disconnected the old washing machine, the water faucet it was connected to broke and had to be replaced. Though I am a Jew with Tools™, and rather fearless when it comes to most sorts of repairs, I avoid all plumbing issues. For reasons. Fortunately, our neighbor is a professional plumber and was willing and able to effect the repair for (again, yes) a mere pittance.
With Esther’s help, I got the new machine in place and hooked-up, and the dryer poised atop it. Back in business, baby!
Various and sundry:
- The IDF released their investigation into their Oct7th conduct and here is a synopsis.
- Bibi tells the IDF to protect Druze villages in Syria.
- Konstantin Kisin on Zelensky’s big mistake and how he can fix it.
- Erin Molan on Trump’s “Shalom Hamas” and other assorted things.
- At the Oscars (what, they’re still a thing?!?) Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot refuse to play nice. Now seriously, folks: who could suspend disbelief long enough to accept that Gal G. was the ugly stepmother? C’mon, man!
- The US will use AI to revoke visas of students perceived as Hamas supporters. What could possibly go wrong?
- Nerd extreme: “Applied Science” on dramatically improving microscope resolution — or: how to turn an expensive setup into a really expensive one.
We were promised rain, but none came; not even a pittance. I am offended by the lack of accountability our weather-watchers exhibit. It’s supposed to be warmer and sunnier next week, but we’ll probably get rain, if the weather-watchers have anything to do with it.
Because of the promised rain, I did a lot of garden-work the first half of the week: pruning trees, fertilizing, and weeding — and my body was most displeased. However, the garden is a lot better off, though my joints are not.
And of course, it’s raining right now…
This shabbat we’re on our own, and will have:
homemade ḥallah,
Korean beef soup,
pargiot,
veggie chili,
rice,
roasted vegetables,
various salatim,
and lemon-poppy-seed cake.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
