Ths week’s devar-torah: on eiruvim.
Once again, a busy week; a week of work, and a week of celebration: Israel’s 74th birthday.
Unlike years past, there were no fireworks on our Independence Day. The excuse the authorities gave was that they wanted to be sensitive to people suffering from PTSD. But we know the real reason: the ship from China with all the fireworks on it is backed up at port somewhere!
Among many other things, I made a new release of 8th, which has quite a few fixes and feature enhancements. Now I’m working on “eliminating the fat” for the next release. For my other clients, I’m working on developing a technique whereby I cease to be upset that they never read the documentation I work diligently to produce. So far, not much luck.
Esther and I also made some progress (quite a bit, actually) this week in clearing up more of the rubble, as we prepare our home for the long-awaited arrival of our grandchildren (well, and their parents as well!). It’s a process.
Say what?
- On the shocking Supreme Court leak this week, and our race to the bottom.
- Yemenite vs. Samaritan vs. Modern Hebrew speakers: can they understand each other?
- Is Earth really overpopulated? Some of that depends on how much arable land there is (TL;DR: still quite a lot), and how efficiently it’s used. Of course, as a species we regularly engage in massive population-control by unleashing the proverbial Four Horsemen. Well, and marrying holograms doesn’t help matters either.
- Scientists (perhaps “mad” ones), blast out Earth’s location, hoping to reach aliens. Isn’t this the theme of at least a hundred dark SciFi books? Probably will eventually help with that overpopulation issue.
- Does the sun go around the earth, or vice-versa? You decide!
- Dilbert’s getting diverse! Or is he?
The weather has turn positively chilly, most unexpected for May (we’re 4+ degrees C below average so far)! We’re supposed to have a similarly chilly shabbat, warming to seasonal norms for the first few days of the week before dropping again.
Our menu this shabbat includes:
home-made sourdough rolls,
mushroom soup,
chicken with rice,
various salatim,
and spice cake.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
