Just after I had sent out last-week’s blog, I decided to tackle the disassembly of our sukkah. That required a ladder; fortunately, I have a good folding ladder which I’ve used many times. This time, unfortunately, I didn’t adequately check that its latches had locked in place.

When I started ascending, the ladder folded in upon itself. I was unceremoniously dumped on my back, and whacked the back of my neck on the edge of the short concrete wall behind me. Esther ran out, barefoot, when she heard the commotion – and we went off to the “urgent-care” facility. Fortunately, we were early and nobody else was there just yet. Esther was shod before we left the house…

The doctor checked to make sure I didn’t have a concussion, gave me some intravenous pain relievers, and kept me under observation for two hours. Fortunately, nothing major was wrong, but it was a close call. I was fairly out of sorts (”shaken, not stirred”) for shabbat and a bit, and I still have a “crease” on the back of my head, but “all’s well, that ends well”!

After shabbat we found out that we had attacked Iran, though far less intensely than many of us were hoping for. IR is threatening to “imminently” attack us again. Big, if true: we’ll utterly destroy the regime this time around.

Other things:

Congrats to Sarah for landing a job! It’s been a long job-search for her, and we know it’s been tough on her (and Yarin). He’s still in the final stages of a ludicrous interview process, and we hope he ultimately passes all the hurdles successfully!

The weather here should be nice, perhaps some rain shabbat afternoon; it’s now cool enough we’re thinking of not leaving windows open at night.

This shabbat we’ve got:
meatballs, rice, baked fish, various salatim, and ice-cream.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom and ḥodesh ṭov! !
