What a week!

We had a very productive and useful week, and I’ll get to that in a moment. First, a few words about the Biggest News Event in Israeli History:

As you certainly know, unless you’ve been in a coma this past week, one of the Founders of the State of Israel, Shimon Peres, went to his reward this week. You can’t avoid knowing this, since every news channel, every Facebook page, every Twitter tweet seems to be solely about this Tremendous Loss to the World. The leaders of the world are gathering today in Jerusalem to pay homage to the Great Man, and ferry his boat past the river Lethe.

You may understand from my tone that I’m not a great fan of the man. He’s been elevated in the public eye to such a high position of sainthood, even his hagiographers are left without adequate words. So forgive me if I read the words he actually said and wonder, “how can people be so blind”? The gathered great of the world will shed their crocodile-tears and depart, thankfully leaving Jerusalem before the upcoming Day of Judgement. I am certain that the architect of Oslo (among his many other fiascos) will have to pay dearly for the thousands of innocent deaths he was responsible for. I leave it to the One True Judge to render judgement, and leave the rotter to rot.

As for us, it was an intense and productive week.

Esther worked more than usual, since there was more than usual work to be done (deadlines and such). She also managed to bake a lot of cakes for the upcoming “holiday season”, and the smell filling the house nearly drove me to gluttony.

I interviewed with a potential (Israeli) client, who asked for my references. Fortunately, my references didn’t betray me, and the client moved from potential to actual. We agreed on terms and starting date. So hopefully in the next week we’ll finish the paperwork and I’ll start working on his project.

My other potential (Israeli) client started getting our contract put together. He’s been ill, so it’s taking a lot longer than I was hoping. Still, that process should also be completed in the next week, and I’ll very likely be 100% committed on these two projects. That’s a good thing, since both will let me work mostly from home.

Another potential (foreign) client woke up this week, and I’ve put in a bid; they inform me that they’ll let me know next week where we stand. That’s a project using 8th, which makes me very happy.

And I worked on my current (foreign) client’s project this week, mostly wrapping it up and now awaiting his approval of the product. That’s also a project using 8th, may they increase!

So in summary: it looks like the new Hebrew year 5777 will be much more profitable for us than 5776 has been so far. We are thankful to the Holy One, blessed is He as well as to our clients and contacts who have helped us reach this point.

Sunday night marks the beginning of the new Hebrew year, and we’ll have guests for the first night, and will ourselves be guests on the second night. During the day… well, we’ll try to relax to the full extent permitted by law.

We wish all our friends, family, acquaintances, and all Israel a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!

This shabbat it’s just the three of us. We’re doing a dairy shabbat, which will include:
orange soup, lasagna, baked hake (merluza), tarta de choclo, salatim, and banana cake.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom and shana tovah!
