September 23rd (See this week's devar torah) Comments or questions? Click here!

Not a lot to report this week. We were busy, as usual.

Esther’s been working on knitting a sweater for me. I’m glad she didn’t finish it yet, since the weather’s still far too warm to warrant wearing anything woolen, and I would feel obligated to don her contribution to my wardrobe right away. So here’s hoping for a rapid onset of autumn!

Sarah’s been looking for work in her field (film production), and it’s a long process. Since the market is relatively small in Israel, the search may take a while. We’re pulling for her and wish her success in the upcoming new (Jewish) year.

I made a first release to my client of the project he hired me to do. His feedback was quite positive, though there are (naturally) things he wants me to change or fix. Next week I will presumably be starting work on another client’s projects, though I haven’t heard for certain when and whether that will be happening.

We attended a wedding this week, which was held in a hall by moshav Agur (near Beit Shemesh). We had been there once before, to the winery (excellent wine, by the way). This time we were at their “social hall”, which was an outdoor venue. The company, food and musical accompaniment were all pleasant. The bride and groom will be sleeping at our house, this shabbat, since their family has many more people coming into town than they can accommodate. We’re happy to be able to help them out.

We also “caught up”, yesterday, with my nephew Chaim and his wife Ariele. It was nice to see them again and hear all their goings-on. They’re working on getting their Hebrew up to snuff — that’s also a process that takes some time, but they’re doing well, B”H.

Regarding the autumn: the forecast for today is for a high of only 23C (in Jerusalem), which is autumnal weather for us. But on shabbat it will warm up a bit, and then we’ll begin the typical see-saw pattern of end-of-summer here in the Land.

This shabbat it’s just the three of us, though we’ve got some house-guests who won’t be joining us for meals. The rest of us will have:
shepherd’s pie, soup, probably other things, salatim, and fruit.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
