Well! We received the shipment of oven-bricks I had ordered last week. At just past 7 in the morning, I saw a fellow standing by my gate. I asked if I could help him, and he asked if I was name redacted. I then noticed he was driving a large truck from the “Israel Post”. It struck me as odd that the company I purchased the stones from and had paid 200₪ for delivery, then went and paid the post office 800₪ to make the delivery. Incredibly, the shipment actually arrived!

Because the driver couldn’t deliver it onto my property, he left the pallet containing 150kg (330lbs) of bricks and mortar on the street and left. Then I had to move them from there to my back yard, which wasn’t nearly as much fun as you might think. However, after some more hard work, we now have a a fully functional grill!

This week we also managed to fix the back-yard power outlet, the “hand-washing station”, and also install a new back-yard floodlight… it was a busy week. By the way, the “cheap” LED outdoor floodlights we got seem to be quite high quality, and the back patio is nicely lit now.

Various stuff:

  • Is Joe Biden coming for your ceiling fan? Jokes on him: we don’t have any!
  • He does seem to be a fan of email aliases. I’m surprised big.guy.10%@gmail.com isn’t one of them.
  • Paper straws are worse for you than the plastic kind, apparently. Even if they aren’t, they’re awful.
  • The costs of Europe’s GDPR regime. EU bureaucrats are ruining the EU.
  • Prof. Hossenfelder says, “Do your own research, but do it right!”

Our roof also got some love: I managed to spread most of a container of sealant on its worst parts. There’s still another container waiting to be hoisted up there and used, but that’s for next week, B”H.

We’ve got sleepover guests this shabbat, for the first time in quite a while. Our friends’ son (who’s learning in yeshiva this year, and for whom I was sandak) and his friend will stay with us. We’ve also got some friends coming for lunch. So it’s going to be an unusually full shabbat.

The weather is supposed to be fairly nice; a bit cooler than it was during the week.

This shabbat we’ll try to feed the ravening hordes with:
homemade ḥalla, chicken “three ways”: barbecued, herbaceous, and crispy, as well as burekas, baked yams, green beans, traditional cholent, meatballs, rice, various salatim, and some sort of dessert(s).

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
