We were extremely busy this week. Esther’s mother was here until Monday, when we returned her, postage paid, to the airport. We hope she enjoyed her stay!
Besides providing taxi service, we attended a “bris”, and (separately) a condolence visit. We got back to work, and both Esther and I had a huge amount of it piled-up. So we spent most of our week attending to that.
My main client at the moment issued a press release about the project for which I’m the software architect and technical lead — it’s suddenly become real! Then, a long-term client gave me some work, and a new client is anxious to start soon. So as far as I can tell, I’m going to be 150% committed, time-wise, for the near future. Piece of cake!
And then, of course, WWIII started up.
Stuff you might not know (or care about):
- How to figure out the size of the moon yourself.
- Canada: The First Province of the World Economic Forum.
- How the Clinton campaign spied on Trump and the White House. This is serious; whether or not it has repercussions remains to be seen.
- The Sensitive Geniuses at the HuffPo opine on how “Republicans were right about inflation” (this time).
- On watching Lia Thomas win.
- An excellent (though long) interview on the topic of “The Truth About the War in Ukraine”
Last week I posted an opinion piece “Ukraine Baloney”, on which I commented “we’ll see”. As it happens, we didn’t have to wait long for Uncle Vlad to commence his campaign for the Sudetenland. I’ve been continually surprised by the extreme naiveté evinced by those who didn’t think Putin was going to make good on his threats. Seriously? Do you remember the Crimean campaign of 2014? Most of us were alive then, after all.
It turns out Putin isn’t concerned about “pronouns” and “political correctness”.
For those of us living in places whose leaders seem to believe the United States (or NATO) will protect them, please take a look at Ukraine: the USA (along with others, including Russia) guaranteed the territorial integrity of Ukraine if they gave up their nukes. Then 2014 came, and the guarantors were silent. Now 2022 arrived with a full-blown invasion of Ukraine, bombing of Kyiv, and the West’s response is limp as can be.
We can only rely on ourselves, and on our Father in Heaven. Praying for the least harmful end to the current hostilities in Europe, and hoping against hope that our leaders take serious note.
Our weather was nice this week, but it looks like cold and rainy for shabbat. Winter in the ME isn’t over yet…
We’re eating out one meal; for the rest this shabbat, we’re having:
homemade ḥalla,
meatballs,
rice,
various salatim,
and “just cake”.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
