We’ve recovered from our bouts of “flu” or whatever; however, Jeremy’s battling the flu. Fortunately, Naomi’s mostly fine and Daniela and the others seem to have dodged that bullet, B”H!
Once again, we ended shabbat to news that three more hostages had been released. They looked more ragged than previous released hostages; and Yarden Bibas has yet to learn for certain the fate of his wife and children, who were also abducted on 07Oct23. We’re hoping against all odds for good news, but if I’m being completely honest, I don’t think there’s good news to be had.
Then we heard Trump’s plan for Gaza, and I couldn’t stop laughing my ass off at the pearl-clutching from pretty much everywhere (except Israel). To be quite honest, his plan is far more humane than my “turn Gaza into a parking-lot” plan.
Anyway, in other, less contentious news: we’ve had a “weak light” in our bathroom, for years. It’s become less and less bright over the years, and this week it finally gave up the ghost. So rather than use candles, we went to a lighting store (right next to the “Pyup” liquor store, in our town) and got a new LED fixture for a quite reasonable price. Then I had to install it, which wasn’t much fun but (as usual) I got it done.
Now the bathroom is far too bright, and we can see things humans weren’t really meant to see.
Various and sundry:
- Jerry Seinfeld: Israel and Antisemitism.
- Smotrich on the Hareidi draft.
- Mallen: Trump shreds US “soft power”.
- But is that really such a bad thing?
- My friend opens Pandora’s box; (or is it “Pandor’s box”?)
I made a bug fix release of 8th this week, a couple weeks earlier than I had planned, because two of the issues my users found were somewhat significant. I also made progress repurposing an old computer monitor; more on that next week, I think.
The weather was fine until Wed afternoon, when it turned very stormy with strong winds and rain. Thu still stormy and rainy and cold. But my roof repairs have held so far, thank you very much!
It’ll be cold and maybe moist for shabbat; we’ll keep ourselves and our guests warm with:
homemade ḥallah,
chicken-vegetable soup,
roast chicken,
spicy wings,
roast potatoes,
various salatim,
and brownies.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
