More gardening! We went to the nursery and got a number of plants and various supplies. The idea being that we’d hang some planters on the wall where the ivy used to be (still is). So far, we’ve planted the plants in appropriate containers or in the ground, and almost all the ivy has been removed. Next week, I hope to finish the majority of that work. Stay tuned!
We were both very busy with work, getting frustrated by our clients. So it goes. I’m still waiting for feedback on a “very urgent” project.
The past week’s exchange of pleasantries with Gaza is over, until it’s not. We, as usual, did not “clean up” properly. I’m sorry to say there’s no way this ends the way all our Utopians would prefer.
Stuff:
- Dr David Martin addressing the EU Parliament on COVID’s very long history. Quite alarming, to be honest.
- Prof Heying on not “following the science”.
- Prof Hossenfelder says life might be more common in the universe than we had thought.
- Mallen Baker: Trump could be President in 2025…
- My favorite cryptographer on Ashton Kutcher and secure multi-party computation. It’s long, and a bit complex, and a bit technical, but interesting.
- Cory Doctorow gave a rather long talk (from 2018) on the war on general-purpose computers. If you have time, it’s worth watching.
- The Critical Drinker: “Cleopatra” is the most hated show of all time. Believe it!
I’ve increased the intensity of my physical exertions, in a probably vain attempt to stop my slide into utter sloth. I started using an app which should be called “Stop being a Fat Slob”, which guides me through a set of not-very intense (for a normal person) but utterly exhausting (for me) exercises. We’ll see how well it works.
One of our friends invited us for a meal, and we’ve invited other friends for a different meal. Our social life just improved 1000%! Not sure I’m up for that, if I’m being honest.
The weather started off with a nice heat-wave (up to 36C by my measurements) and then plummeted to below-average yesterday and for the next couple days. Sweet! Still uncertain what will face us for the upcoming shavuot holiday next Thu night.
This shabbat we’re invited out for one meal, and having guest another. We’ll whip up:
home-made ḥalla,
herbaceous chicken,
eggplant moussaka,
rice,
various salatim,
kumquat chutney,
and mint sorbet to cleanse your pallet palate.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
